College Football
I am not a college football fan. I don't care who wins the Rose Bowl or the Orange Bowl or the Toilet Bowl. I don't spend New Year's Day watching college football games. I can't tell you how the BCS rankings work. (I don't think most college football fans could either.) I don't know which team is currently ranked #1 in the country and frankly, I don't really care. But I asked myself today "Why don't I care?"
I like football just as much as anyone else. In fact, I spent nearly all day yesterday watching NFL football games. But why is it that I don't watch college games when I regularly watch NFL games? I think the biggest problem is that I don't know any of the players. Most college football players that are any good only play for a couple of years and then they go after the money of the NFL. This makes it really hard to be a fan of any particular players. The other thing is that I can't be a fan of anyone one team. I went to San Jose State and they play in a crappy division and have a crappy team pretty much every year. Cal and Stanford are the only teams in the area that are competitive but I don't have any ties to either team. The same holds true for me when it comes to college basketball but there are more factors involved in that which I will save for another entry.
Maybe if I ever go back to school, I'll get to go to a school with a good football or basketball team and maybe then I will get caught up in the school spirit and become a college sports fan but for now, I think I'll stick to my not caring ways.

Move out of Northern California, and things will change. I mean really, how COULD you be a college football fan in the Bay Area? All the teams are pretty weak, with the exception of Cal, who--according to my Cal fan friends--find a new way to blow it every year.
I was a moderate fan of college football until I moved to Austin, a city with zero major pro sports teams and one huge university. College football is life here. Even the youth group and church schedules are partly based on when Texas is playing where.
I really think it depends on where you live and your affiliation, which often overlap.
