I Won't Forget
As I am sure everyone knows, 7 years ago today terrorists attacked the United States by hijacking a series of planes and crashing them into US targets. I can still remember how it all went down from my persepctive. I was lazy that morning and was sleeping in. I turned on the television and was preparing for a lazy day. I noticed that the television was showing a picture of the World Trade Center on fire. I didn't read the caption or listen to what the reports were saying. I said to myself, "What movie is this? Independence Day?" and I switched the channel only to find the same thing. I flipped through a few channels and that is when I realized that this was real.
I sat in front of the TV in awe as they showed the planes crashing into the towers and each one tumbling down. When the first one crashed, I thought, maybe it was an accident. But how can someone "accidentally" fly a plane into a building like that. Then before you know it, another plane comes flying in and hits the second tower. This was clearly not an accident.
Many innocent people died that day and we shouldn't forget them. I visited "Ground Zero" as it is called today when I was in New York in 2006. I for one will remember the brave people who risked or lost their lives trying to save others. I made sure to buy an FDNY t-shirt when I was there in their memory.
